What is DSL?
DSL
is a modem technology that turns your existing phone
line into a three-channel data delivery system. One
channel transmits voice services, so normal phone and
fax usage continues whether or not you are accessing
the Internet. A second channel transmits data downstream
at high speeds, and a third bi-directional channel transmits
data upstream. The downstream and upstream channels
carry information to and from the Internet. Therefore,
phone or fax calls occurring on the first channel are
not affected by your online activity. There are modems
at each end of the phone line. One is at your home;
one is at the UTS Central Office. Working together,
these modems provide a dedicated connection that avoids
the need to dial-up for access to the Internet. The
modem in the UTS Central Office points your Internet
traffic to the DSL network and on to the Internet. With
OneNet DSL Internet access, you have a fast connection
to the Internet.
2.
How does the OneNet DSL service work?
OneNet
DSL technology takes advantage of your existing phone
line. While regular phone calls are transferred at relatively
low frequencies, OneNet DSL data is transmitted at much
higher frequencies. Both types of transmissions can
occur simultaneously, without interference.

Voice
and digital data are separated by a splitter placed
in your home. The splitter sends voice transmissions
to the telephone, and digital data transmissions to
a OneNet DSL modem. Fax machines will operate as usual.
OneNet
DSL offers a virtually instantaneous connection, with
no lengthy dial-in process. It's almost like flipping
on a light switch: OneNet DSL is always there, whenever
you want it.
3.
How fast is the DSL Service?
Really
fast! Depending on the maximum speed you sign up for,
DSL service provides connection speeds that are up to
50 times faster than a traditional dial-up connection.
Data and images are loaded at such a rate that you won’t
want to go back to your dial-up connection again. It
will make your work or play much easier and more fun.
4.
Is my OneNet DSL speed guaranteed?
Connection
speeds are not guaranteed and will depend on many factors
such as general conditions on the Internet at any given
time. As such, UTS offers a "best effort"
service. That means we don't offer any throughput guarantees,
but we will always do our best to provide you with the
fastest connection your specific conditions will allow.
5.
What affects my connection speed?
When
you connect to the Internet using a DSL modem, the speeds
that you will experience will vary based on a variety
of factors, including the following:
•
Computer configuration
• Network or Internet congestion
• Server and router speeds of the Web sites
you access
• Other factors
Connection
speed is the speed that data is transferred between
your computer and the UTS Central Office during your
initial connection to the OneNet DSL network. Throughput
(Download) speed is the rate that information is transferred
from the Internet to your computer. It is the speed
at which you receive data. Send speed (Upload speed)
refers to the rate that information is transferred from
your computer to the Internet.
6.
What does an "always on" connection mean?
OneNet
DSL gives you a dedicated connection between your computer
and your phone network. There is no dialing in; no waiting
to get online; and, no busy signals. The Internet is
always a click away. OneNet DSL offers a virtually instantaneous
connection, with no lengthy dial-in process. It's almost
like flipping on a light switch: OneNet DSL is always
there, whenever you want it.
7.
Will I get busy signals?
No.
You will never get busy signals with OneNet DSL because
there is no dialing involved. Instead, you are directly
connected to the Internet via a dedicated connection
that is used only by you.
8.
Can I talk on the phone and use OneNet DSL Service at
the same time?
Yes,
you can talk on the phone and use your OneNet DSL service
at the same time, on the same one telephone line. There's
no need to add an additional phone line for OneNet DSL
service.
9.
How does the OneNet DSL compare to a dial-up or an ISDN
connection?
OneNet
DSL is better than dial-up because:
•
It's up to 25 times faster than a standard 56K modem
• It's always on with no busy signals
• It allows voice over the same phone line,
making data-only lines obsolete
• It's more secure, due to having no shared
bandwidth with other users
• There are no dial-up telephone charges to
access the internet
OneNet
DSL is better than ISDN because:
•
It's up to 10 times faster than 64K ISDN
• It's up to 5 times faster than 128K ISDN
• It saves you from spending money on costly
ISDN lines
• There are no dial-up telephone charges to
access the internet
10.
How does OneNet DSL compare to Wireless modems?
OneNet
DSL is based on a fixed telephone line. Weather has
no influence on the connection. The DSL connection is
dedicated to you, other DSL users cannot interfere.
11.
How does OneNet DSL compare to Satellite modems?
OneNet
DSL is based on a fixed telephone line. Weather does
not influence the performance. There are no long delays
in the connection in comparison with satellite.
No separate permits are necessary.
12.
How does the OneNet DSL compare to getting a second
phone line?
You
can enjoy the speed and reliability of OneNet DSL for
just a little more per month than you may currently
be paying for dial-up access and a second phone line.
13.
What kind of IP address is provided with OneNet DSL?
The
OneNet Internet, OneNet Voice and OneNet Triple Play bundles are provided
with one public, dynamic IP address. No additional
IP addresses are available on these bundles. With our OneNet Office DSL service we provide a variety of choices in Public, Static and additional IP addresses. Please take a look at our Office DSL choices.
14.
Can you provide me with a static IP address on my OneNet
DSL?

an Office DSL or an IP leased line.
15.
Can I get additional IP addresses with OneNet DSL?

16.
Can I host my company’s website on the web space
